The Mutineers
The Mutineers
The Mutineers are a twangy husband/wife rock duo that blends the influences of Johnny and June with John Doe and Exene, and a bit of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey. Husband and wife, Brian Mathusek and Merry Young, are based out of Portland, OR, but were on the road for most of 2017-18 in support of their album, Live at B-side. They will be releasing a new EP, Threshold, on September 14 and will be touring nationally through the fall. The tour has stopped in 30 states with over 120 performances. The duo recently worked with photographer/director Clovis IV and have just released a video for their song "Drug For That". The Mutineers were featured at Boise's Treefort Music Fest in spring '17 and '18 and at the Wildwood Music Festival in Sheridan, OR and Twang N Bang Fest in San Luis Obispo, CA in the summer. They shared the stage with great artists like Reverend Peyton's Big Damn Band, Larry and His Flask, Giants in the Trees, and Amigo the Devil.
Drunken Prayer
Drunken Prayer
The songs of Drunken Prayer have a big American sweep to them, with displaced characters, God, flowing rivers, hellraisers, fate, loss, grace and wandering. You can hear country, early rock, Bakersfield twang, blues and old-time all sifted through the music, but there’s also a delicate songwriting sophistication, with jazzy turnarounds, surprise modulated bridges and sudden stops. Drunken Prayer will likely bring to mind The Band for a lot of listeners, with the sense of history and tradition. But Morgan Geer’s songs and his singing often suggest a kinship with artists like Bobby Charles or Doug Sahm, musicians with Southern roots, with a yip and break to their voices, and notes of sadness offset by a sense of humor.

A live Drunken Prayer show is usually solo or with a small combo. The records are supported by a wide range of musicians from Appalachia to Portland, OR. Under this alias Morgan has released 4 LPs, a handful of singles, a live EP, and toured the world.

On Drunken Prayer’s latest release, The Devil and The Blues, Geer teamed up with members of The Reigning Sound and The Sadies to lead another journey through America’s weird musical heritage.

Recently Drunken Prayer has been tour internationally with The Handsome Family.

An upcoming album is in production, currently being mixed with Mitch Easter at Fidelitorium.

Morgan is also the current guitar player for iconic alt-country goths, Freakwater.
