The Bundys
The Bundys
Hey! We are Megan, Katey and Ryan - AKA "The Bundys". We grew up in Cincinnati, OH and we were born and raised on music. Influenced by the likes of John Denver, Ryan Adams, Simon and Garfunkel and Dolly Parton these icons were a big part of our musical tastes. Growing up, we all taught ourselves how to play guitar and soon after we each started to write songs. Although growing up we would always play music together in the house, we didn’t begin to actually write music with one another until later on.

In 2010, Megan moved to Nashville, TN to chase the illusive country music dream. While recording her first EP a few years later, she asked her two siblings to join her to sing harmony. It was this moment that changed our lives forever. We realized that we were discovering something special, so we unanimously chose to pursue this Nashville dream together!

Over the next two years, we battled with competing schedules, school, work and distance. After a brief appearance on Fox’s The X Factor, we had to make a decision about the direction of the band. The more we wrote and played together, the clearer it became that this was what we were born to do. So in order to fund our first project, we decided to launch a Kickstarter campaign. Thanks to all of our supportive and amazing fans we were blessed with the opportunity to finally create the music we were so driven to make.

We traveled down to Dockside Studios in Maurice, Louisiana twice for recording sessions in 2014 and 2015. Guided by producer Justin Tocket, we aimed to create a record that describes who we are as a family and what we wanted to say as a band. Our debut album Louisiana Avenue was released in September of 2015.

After a successful launch, Louisiana Avenue spent time on the iTunes “Singer-Songwriter” charts. Riding this wave of exhilaration, we took the momentum and began playing our music all around Nashville and various other Southern and Midwestern cities. After playing such gigs as Americana Festival, Musicians Corner, and the famous Bluebird Café, we were given the opportunity to open for Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter LeAnn Rimes, on her “Today is Christmas” tour. This opportunity of a lifetime gave us the chance to expose our dream to thousands of fans and meet some incredible people along the way.

In 2017 we put a lot of focus on writing some great songs for all of you to hear. Not to mention, we also got to experience an amazing time when our very own Katey got married this summer! With A TON of things in the works, we are so excited to share all of it with you in the coming months. After our most recent EP Before I Go was released in mid-December, we are looking forward to bring our music to your local venues. We hope we're able to get out and meet all of you in close-by cities, so keep an eye on our "Tour" page as well as our Instagram and Facebook, as we'll be sharing these shows on all of these platforms. Hope to see all of you soon!
Violet Bell
Violet Bell
Violet Bell cites a wide range of influences. From Debussy to Neil Young, D’Angelo to Lou Reed, they reflect folk, soul, bluegrass, blues, and classical. Their songs are otherworldly yet made from the stuff of everyday life, exploring questions of intergenerational change, our relationship to Earth, and the human emotional experience.

The live show is at the center of Violet Bell’s sound. They’ve played over 100 shows in 2017, earning fans from FL to VT with long stretches on the road. On stage, the energy between Ross and Ruiz-Lopez is fiery, intimate and intuitive. Their sound is true to the mutating nature of music as life on the road continually brings fresh inspiration into the mix.

Violet Bell keeps live performance at the core of their debut release Dream the Wheel. Ross sings and plays guitar, as Ruiz-Lopez adds violin, viola, cello, keys, guitar and vocal harmonies. The result is alchemical; emotionally evocative music that “sounds like a beautiful dream turned sudden nightmare.”(IW)

The album’s title track, “Dream the Wheel,” speaks to a fearlessly inclusive view of life’s cyclical polarities. “Sing, sing, everything/ Comes and goes and comes again/ Let it out and let it in/ Let it be your medicine,” “No such thing/ as too far/ or too deep/ or too dark.” In the modern era of rising seas and informational flooding, these lyrics are yours to interpret.

The album cover, a medicine wheel that Ruiz-Lopez and Ross crafted from local NC flora, speaks to the origins of the music. Violet Bell is rooted firmly in the natural world and the community from which they’ve grown. The September 15 release show for Dream the Wheel featured three members of the Durham Kidznotes All-Star string ensemble, whom Ruiz-Lopez has helped to teach since 2011. For Violet Bell, teaching and community connection are fundamental goals.

Prior to forming Violet Bell, Ruiz-Lopez honed his chops on the road with Jonathan Byrd and Crystal Bright, and composed original pieces for the Durham Symphony Orchestra. Ross is a two-time Kerrville New Folk finalist and winner of Floydfest’s On the Rise, a Carolina Music Award, and an Emerging Artist Grant from the Durham Arts Council.

As Violet Bell, Ross and Ruiz-Lopez become a dynamic musical force that’s greater than either one of them alone. Violet Bell is currently touring in support of their debut Dream the Wheel and recording their second album for release in 2018.
