Ellie Morgan
Ellie Morgan
Born and raised right here in the Carolinas, Ellie Morgan is a native Charlottean and a veteran of the city’s rapidly growing music scene. Ellie fell in love with singing and playing guitar at a young age, and was originally smitten by the works of a young country singer-songwriter by the name of Taylor Swift. Ellie learned to play all of Swift’s songs at the age of fifteen and began to perform those songs around Charlotte as a Myers Park High School student. She began busking uptown for school fundraisers and performing at local Charlotte events, including Festival in the Park and the Tosco Music Open Mic at the Evening Muse on the first Wednesday of the month. Throughout her college career at Queens University of Charlotte, Ellie continued to play out around the city, bringing only her acoustic Taylor guitar (a much-appreciated high school graduation gift from her mother and father) and her soprano vocals to the stage, but delivering her whole heart and soul through her songs. Ellie balanced gigging around town with school work from her classes, until the age of twenty-two, when Ellie was in the middle of her junior year at Queens, and decided it was time to choose between the music that was calling her to the stage, and the studies that she felt were hindering her creative energy flow.

After completing her third year of university studies, Ellie dove headfirst into the Charlotte music scene by committing to a full-time career in music and performance. Ellie began to earn her living through playing around town: in live music venues and restaurants, breweries and bars, backyard gatherings and birthday parties alike, and continues to do so today. She also performs for weddings, special events, and festivals, in and outside of the Charlotte area. Ellie has performed at the Tosco Music Holiday Party and Beatles Show, The Matthews Artwalk and Jazzfest, and on the main stage at Charlotte’s most treasured autumn festival, Festival In The Park, with a full band ensemble. Ellie volunteers to play and sing for patients and family members at Levine Children’s hospital roughly ten times a year, and teaches guitar lessons to a select few students from the ages of ten to fifteen. Her passion for music is ever growing, and she seeks to expand her avenues for making music a full-time career on a day-to- day basis.

In January of 2017, Ellie auditioned and received the Charlotte Folk Society adult scholarship to attend The Swannanoa Gathering at Warren Wilson College in the mountains of North Carolina. The gathering takes place annually in the summertime, and is best described as an educational program of folk arts workshops, lead by merited country and folk musicians (such as Kathy Mattea Cliff Eberhardt), to develop skills of singer-songwriters and contemporary folk musicians alike. During this week of expansive songwriting and vocal performance classes, Ellie was grateful to have been awarded the opportunity to delve into her musical passions and broaden her songwriting horizons to create new works of music that will appear on her forthcoming albums in the future of her career.

Ellie continues to create and perform her music on a citywide scale, and plans to tour with her original songs outside of Charlotte, in the near future. Her debut original album, titled “Places I Hide,” is to be released here at the Evening
Muse on Saturday, December 30, 2017. The album is a compilation of Ellie’s musical works from the ages of twelve to twenty-four, and conveys the chapters of her life thus far, through honest and emotional, raw and relatable lyrics. Her
songs are melodic and heartfelt: they reach into your chest and play your heartstrings with a conviction of personal experiences that are relatable to audiences of all ages and areas of life. Ellie plays and sings with a passion that is
tangible to the listener, captivating to the onlooker, and is unmistakably apparent to those who open their hearts to receiving the messages of her music.
