John Elderkin and ¡Moonbeams No Mas!
John Elderkin and ¡Moonbeams No Mas!
David Bowie’s The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars promised that the world would end in five years...

but we're still here.

The Fall and Rise of John Elderkin and ¡Moonbeams No Mas! picks up where the story left off. The record works as a rock opera, with characters and plot, but it is not a musical homage to Bowie. Instead, John Elderkin has collected a group of fellow North Carolinians to create their own Everyperson’s epic story of hope, loss, and resilience.

And a trip to the moon.

Collaborators include R.E.M. producer Don Dixon, Robert Sledge from Ben Folds Five, Spongetone Chris Garges, Lay Quiet Awhile’s Danielle Howle, Chuck Garrison of Pipe and Zen Frisbee, John Ensslin of What Peggy Wants, Pressure Boy John Plymale, Jay Garrigan of The Temperance League, and Philip Collins of Satellite Boyfriend.

John Elderkin has written and performed in The Popes, The Lovely Lads, and The Public Good and has received this critical acclaim:

“If you put out an album, make sure I get it.”
- Jon Pareles of The New York Times

“Spontaneous, unpretentious, witty, hard-edged pop.”
- Cashbox

“They rock—hard. Like the Who and the Clash, they are one of us, champions of the underdog.”
-The Independent Weekly (NC)

“Regular guys who deserve attention.”

“The best unsigned band in America. Neglecting The Popes will lead to your soul burning
in hell.”
- J.R. Taylor, I Cover The War
