Laura Wortman and Kagey Parrish share more than most couples. As the Honey Dewdrops, they share stages from venues to festivals across North America, stretches of rolling, infinite roadway, and a lot of songs; they share one mic and a hunger to pay attention to what endures. This hunger to explore and document is evident in their 2012 release Silver Lining, a Top Ten record on national Folk and Americana stations. With tight harmonies and an musical ensemble that includes clawhammer banjo, mandolin and guitars, the effect is to leave listeners with only what matters: the heart of the song and clarity over ornamentation.

“Long may The Honey Dewdrops continue to make music this timeless.” – MAVERICK MAGAZINE

Kellie Lane Hatley Sides and Kacie Lauren Hatley were born and bred out of small town Stanfield, North Carolina. Raised as fifth generation bluegrass musicians, the Hatley sisters are no strangers to the stage. They spent much of their childhood singing with The Hatley Family Band, a bluegrass gospel arrangement that is still together today. Sharing the stage with other siblings and cousins, the girls learned to harmonize at an early age.

In their middle school years they took to learning to play, Kellie was drawn to banjo, as Kacie pursued fiddle. With the accompaniment of four fellow musicians, the band Nashville Bound was formed. At their height, this group of young musicians performed at the Gibson Showcase, The Station Inn, and opened for John McCain at his North Carolina presidential rally in 2008. After years of success, shows, CD distribution, and travel, the group disbanded to focus on pursuing educational goals.

Although the girls slowed down during these years, they continued to perform in different arrangements. Both sisters taught themselves to play other instruments, including guitar, and continued to perform in coffee shops, sing for weddings, jam with local musicians, and experiment with various genres and styles.

“Lauren and Lane came to us as an answer to a question: what next?” quotes Kacie. After many impromptu jams between the sister duo during Kacie’s residency at Wingate University, the girls found the answer to their question. “The sound we create is not something we can achieve individually. I could not and would not want to embark on this endeavor without her," states Kellie. The band debuted in July of 2014 in Oakboro, NC. If you were to attend a Lauren & Lane performance, you would hear a variety of material. Selections vary from traditional bluegrass tunes, to the occasional pop cover (check out their cover of Major Lazer and DJ Snake's "Lean On"), to originals written about life, body image issues, revenge, and everything in between.

2017 has brought a number of new beginnings, the first of which being the addition of a new member. Brandon Sides, Kellie's husband and talented bassist, joined the group, bringing fullness and rounding out their sound. Additionally, Kellie and Brandon are thrilled to share their joy, as they welcomed a son in April.

Kellie summed it up best with this sentiment, "Just as our personal lives are constantly evolving, so too is the case with our music. That's what we love so much about writing. With each season comes a new batch of songs. We make an effort to be as honest and real as possible. I think if you listen, you'll hear that."
